“We translate into efficiency”

Once upon a time, when my wife and I first started working together, we started out with the name “Basagoitia y Bracamonte Traducciones.” This was truly not a stroke of genius, most of our international clients couldn’t even pronounce the name. But we were young and new on the scene, and we really weren’t thinking globally. We mostly worked locally and mostly relied on our peers for work, and life was good enough.

Like any business sooner or later does, at one point we hit a rough patch, and we felt the need to advertise our services abroad in order to bring in some more business. We did not have any advisors or publicists, of course, and we could not afford a professional designer to come up with a logo for us, much less a professional website designer, so I started learning and experimenting with logos and slogans and web page design. I knew absolutely nothing about any of those things, but I did know we had to have a website and everything else that came with one, like a domain name and an e-mail address, for example, and what a steep learning curve that was.

I first had to sacrifice that which I loved most at the time, my one and only passion: Enduro. I sold my dirt bike and used the money to buy an IBM computer. I think it was an Aptiva.

I got so obsessed with computers, after that, I was building my own after only a few months. I got really good at it. I built many—too many—for family and friends. I never made any money doing that, I just did it for fun. My friends and family would give me the money for the parts, and I would build them the computer they needed at a cost much lower than the price of an IBM. I even built the best gaming computer I could afford for myself, but video games have always made me motion sick, so that did not prosper.

Creating our first website was not easy. I had no idea of what a DNS record was or whether we needed HTML or PHP; I didn’t even know what PHP was—I’m pretty sure I still don’t know what PHP is. The domain name we chose was:

www.elsalvador-translation.com

We also bought a few variations of that domain name and registered the web address, the logo, and, the slogan.
